Reading a great article about silencing your judge earlier this week, reminded me that I also need to share the power of Positive Intelligence (www.positiveintelligence.com).
For far too many years I convinced myself that I was “too busy” or “didn’t need” to spend time on better understanding and developing myself. However, after a couple of half-hearted attempts with different self-reflection tools, I was invited to join one of the Positive Intelligence program groups, and since then I have found it to be an unbelievable tool which I use every day both at work and in my personal life.
The hook for me was this snippet from Shirzad… “Your mind is your best friend. But it can also be your worst enemy. The mind harbours characters that actively sabotage our happiness and success.” Shirzad Chamine.
As I started the program, one of my primary goals I set was to be able to communicate better with my youngest daughter – 16 years old at the time and a challenge for any father 😉
Based on a combination of neuroscience, cognitive behavioural psychology, positive psychology and performance science the research uncovered the core factors that impact both performance and wellbeing and involves “rewiring the brain at the root level rather than treating symptoms”.
Of course, at the time, I had no idea that I would be learning how to identify and intercept my Judge and Accomplice Saboteurs (quieting the Survive side of my brain) and develop strategies to leverage my 5 Sage Powers (activating the Thrive side of my brain).
All sounds a bit crazy, but once you understand a little bit of the science and start getting into the practice, I found the framework incredibly powerful in improving my relationships (particularly with my daughter!); having more meaningful and constructive interactions at work; being a calmer and more focused leader to the team; and a happier, less stressed person in myself.
An unexpected upside was that by talking about it at home, the whole family suddenly started being aware of and calling out each others’ Judge and Accomplice Saboteurs, leading to a lot of very funny but extremely valuable conversations.
As we build our new business Quadrivium AU, we intend to make the program available to our team so that they can make it a part of their own growth journey to improve their personal and professional lives. 🚀
So, thank you to Shirzad Chamine for creating this amazing program and to Adam Detwiler for introducing me to it. 🙏
Off to the brain gym now to do some PQ reps and build my self-command muscle… 💪 💪 💪
